Burning the Candle at Both Ends

Today I did something that I can't remember the last time that I did.

No, not eat a vegetable.

I worked out this morning, around 6:30-7:00am. Then, went to school and to work.. and then back to the gym for a workout with Josh the Destroyer.

Double dipping wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Doing those side-to-side drills with the boxing gloves on.. that was akin to burning in hell with no air-conditioning, but the two gym workouts in one day was pretty good.

So, I'm going to keep trying to double dip if I can. Not every night, but perhaps a few days a week. Go to the gym in the morning, just like normal, and on the days that I just come home form work, maybe stop in for a little bit. It took a long time to get to this size, and it's going to take an effort to get back down. If it's easy enough, why not?

One thing I noticed. Today I got one of those one serving bags of "Sugar Free" jellybeans, those fancy ones that taste like freaking everything. Weren't the greatest, but it was nice to get a bit of sugar in me, and for 0g of fan and only 90 calories, why not, right? I'll tell you why not.

My stomach is killing me for it. Whatever that substitute for flavor and sugar is did NOT agree.
So, here's a lesson for you folks keeping score at home.

If it ain't natural, don't eat it. Your gut will thank you for it.

not sure I agree with the whole going to the gym twice it one day thing. seems to be you would get burned out *real* easy like that. i think the way you have been doing it has worked well!

I'm with Erin.

The Destroyer might tell you different, but "too much of a good thing" can be a true statement.

Of course, this is coming from a guy that needs to lose 77 pounds, so what do I know??

Ok...here's my thought. If you feel up to it, go for it, on occassion, but DON'T burn yourself out to quickly! If the desire to hit the gym for a bit for a second time one day, why not? It's not only great for for the physical health, but awesome for mental health, too! But don't commit yourself to "a few days a week" because then you'll be kicking yourself if you don't feel up to it and skip out on the second trip, which can do a number on your mental determination!
I've got to agree with you on the sugar thing...with my dad being a diabetic, I've sampled many, many sugar free sweets...definately NOT worth it!! I've found that I get much more satisfaction out of one "bit size" piece of "real" candy. It satisfies that nagging crave, and if you do just have one, on occassion, it doesn't do so much damage! Also, those 100-calorie packs by Nabisco (I think) are pretty good...I like the cinnamon graham cracker ones. They've helped me out during a craving or two!
Keep up the good work, buddy.

Erin - You're right, I was feeling pretty powerful last night after the double dip, but today I feel like I just called Mike Tyson's mother a dirty name. I'm pretty sore this morning.

I think I'll stick to the one-a-days, and every once in a while if I go in the morning, if I feel pretty good, I may do some bonus cardio at night. Josh the Destroyer agreed with you guys mostly, said not to overdo it. I think sometimes in my head I really want to overdo it and go as hard as possible.

Nancy - those 100 cal packs are a great idea. Erin used to get those, the little cookies are fantastic. May be a good idea agian.

Kev - You can look at it as a guy who needs to lose 77, or as a guy that's dropped 23. Give yourself some credit, you're doing one hell of a job.

Kick ass job last night, Rob, keep up the good work. yeah, as i told you yesterday, if you feel up to two a days every now and then...great. but as i said, don't over do it. also, remember 5 days a week is plenty for your cardio, stay active the other days, but don't become a slave to every day. you own the exercise, don't let it own you. i've had some bad experiences with the sugar free as well, stick with the bite size or the 100 cal packs and you'll be great. dark chocolate has a lot of antioxidants, so keep it up. do work.

Yeah, I'm with everyone else...don't overdo it. Good job, though! Doesn't it feel great after you do something like that??

Also, candy without sugar is like Christmas without presents. It's just not right! If you're going to have candy, by God, have candy. Just eat it in moderation.

The replacement for candy is dried fruit. I have a packet of dried apricots a day, helps me concentrate in class. They're very healthy. Just a tip.

Dude, I totally can't keep up with your blog. TOO MUCH! You're crazy. PS, I'm still in on the walk. Just keep me posted. See you this weekend for the MOVE! If that won't be a work out, I don't know what will be.

The sugar free candy if used has to be used in moderation. If you ever read the warning signs on the sugar free candy, yes I said warning signs. Especially on the chocolate, it will cause upset stomach and the runs. The ingredients in the sugar free candy is the same as a laxative. It's one of those fun facts people usually learn after they have eaten sugar free candy.
