You Get What You Earn

Well.. it was a delayed weigh-in day, and I've got mixed feelings.

Notice that the name of the blog hasn't changed. When I weigh in, before I step on the scale I set the scale blocks to the exact same weight that I was the last time I weighed in, so when I step on the scale, the 'balance point' drops if I've dropped. Today, I set it, and it perfectly balanced when I stepped on the scale. I didn't gain a single pound in the last 9 days, but I didn't gain one either.

I want to be pissed off right now, but if I'm being real honest with myself, I'm lucky that I didn't go the wrong way. With the new house, we went out to dinner a few times for 'celebration' dinners, and just two nights ago I had a meal that I tried to convince myself that it was healthy, but I knew better. I've cheated here and there, had a bit of chocolate to go along with my buttery noodles, and I still balanced out even this week. Hell, this morning was my first time in the gym since Thursday.

So, as much as I am disappointed that the scale didn't show success, the honest truth is that I didn't earn that success. So, my focus is back. I'm re-energized. Sometimes you need a slap in the face to remind you that you're not doing what you're supposed to be doing, and it kicks back in. Again, without this blog, this may have been one of my many, many excuses to stop dieting and just put all the weight back on.

Oh, and for what it's worth, for those of you who read this, there's a new link on my "Friends Who Need Support" List on the front page of the blog, to your right. I browse a few weight loss websites, and I met a guy who needs your support the way myself, Kevin and Beck do. We're starting to start a coalition here, and Billy's our newest member. Please give his website the same support you do me, it's much appreciated.

So, another day, another pound. The next two weeks with the holidays are going to be one hell of a challenge.. one I plan on winning.

Rough one about the scale not budging, but I think you have the right attitude about it.
Reading your posts, I feel like I'm lucky to have absolutely nothing going on in my life to distract me from doing this (no new house, no finals, etc.) When your routine gets disrupted, it can be very difficult to keep it together.
One thing I like to do is second-guess my reasons for wanting bad food or not wanting to go to the gym. The other day I had a root canal, and I had convinced myself not to go to the gym because of it. But then I was like "why, because my mouth hurts and is a little numb?" And so I went and had a great workout. Your mind will trick you into reasons. Keep that in mind the next time you say to yourself "I'm too busy" or "There's too much going on", etc.
Staying on track and not giving up is way more important than whether or not you lose a few pounds anyway.

What was with this past week? Very frustrating! Great outlook, though! This is a new week and we're going to kick ass!

Hey Rob...good attitude, I must say, considering. Being honest with yourself it the best tool you have got to win this one! You could have easily gone into denial mode, made excuses, griped that even if you did cheat here and there, you've busted your ass moving into the new house and all, etc...and should have lost a pound or two. You didn't, you held yourself accountable, you saw where you tripped up a bit, and now you're re-focused! Good for you...with this outlook and honesty you have, you'll get through the holidays. Not easily...to say that WOULD be denial, but you WILL get through them!! Good for you, keep it up and GET BACK TO WORK! (just kidding)

My boy! Congrats on getting in the house, thats awesome and its beautiful by the way. Now lets regain your laser like focus. I'm going to be out of town next week. I actually have something tonight open, but i'm sure you have plenty of work to do. If you get a chance come see me though, even if you just give me 30 minutes. Mens Health has a lot of great suggestions for holiday eating, so hit that up. Take a walk on Christmas after your meal, see lights, go to the park, whatever. Just keep moving like you have been. Most importantly eat breakfast and keep you meals regular! preferably every 3-4 hours, smaller portions of course. Stay on course, its all about the journey. much love and do work.

I'm not going to write a blog today (or tomorrow), as I won't have internet access again for a few days. I'm sitting at Wayne State's computer station right now, and I'm pretty pissed off that AT&T couldn't keep their 8-12pm appointment today to install my internet jacks at the house.

Just a heads up, it's not a 'lazy' issue, it's a total and utter incompetence issue on the part of AT&T.

For what it's worth, if you ever need internet service, pick someone else. They're garbage.

I'll be back in a few days.. and Josh, I'll try and hit you up, but if you're gone next week, that's no problem. The next two weeks "paint and remodel" days, so I'll be busy as usual. I'll hit you up though if I can.

Been awhile....

Anyways, don't get down about the scale not dropping. Like you said, it didn't go up either, so it shows you were able to negate whatever 'bad' stuff you ate this past weekend. However, that's also not an excuse to stop ;)

Just keep plugging away. Get back in that saddle and exercise. Heck, give Josh your home address so he can come drag you out of bed in the mornings ;).

Just keep up the hard/good work and you'll eventually get back on the track.

Keep workin it, bro. Every time I try to diet, the point where I fall off the wagon is the first time I weigh in and see no progress. You have a stronger will than that, though, and I know you'll work past it. Things will settle down around the new house and you'll be right back in it.

Like I said, let me know about the New Year's walk, I'd like to give it a try!

no weight gain during the holidays is a big plus!

Like Josh said, walk it off! If you're using the calories you take in, you won't gain weight.

Rob! Come back! We need you!

Yes, come back! Did you have a good Christmas? Did you eat entirely way too much? Did you hit the gym and work it off?

You haven't posted in a suspiciously long time... you better not be elbow-deep in a bag of doritos...
