Leading By Example
Weigh In: 270.5 (new low!)
Five Day Average: 274.0
Calories Counted: 2026
A few things to note tonight.
First off - I had a new low today. Very satisfying, but this is where I've seen the light. Every time I see this new low, I let my foot off the gas and expect the car to coast. Not this time. We're headed into another weekend full of eating out and free schedules, so this will be another week to shine. I've got 10 days on the "Clean Eating Streak" and I'm not stopping any time soon.
Secondly, I'm pretty proud of my work team today. I've mentioned a few times how my team at work pretty much eats like crap. Pizza, subs, gyros, reuben, you name it - they eat it. Well, I think I'm starting to rub off. We were talking about how I've lost the weight, and they decided (I don't know if it's related or not, I'd like to think so) that instead of doing the typical Friday Pizza Day (or whatever carry out food it would have been), we're doing Salad Bar day.
Instead of pooling their money and getting highly processed, low quality food, we're all bringing in salad toppings and having a community salad bar. I'm bringing dressings, others are bringing the lettuce, veggies, etc - and we're having a healthy option for lunch. That may not be a big deal to some at my office, but to me that's a big step. I was talking to one of my co-workers today and she was telling me how she "should follow in your steps" and was talking to me about how I "do it", how I eat right and how I've lost the weight. Legit questions - not just the 'hi, I'm being friendly" thing.
So it's a step in the right direction, and I'm proud of them.
And tomorrow - for the first time in a long, LONG time - I'm eating lunch with my team.

Rob, that's awesome. I hope they all love it and continue it.
Good job, Tuck. Now, if you can just get them to not freak out at the vending machine when those salads don't keep them full...
That's cool. I'm sure that you are part of the motivation for that change, which should make you feel so good! Enjoy the salad bar. I think that's one of the challenges of losing weight - food is SO social, that you end up being excluded/excluding yourself or being tempted. I'm glad you get to enjoy lunch with your co-workers.
thats a big deal. it's SO much easier to eat healthy when everyone around you is doing it. congrats on the 10 days of healthy eating! i'd love to see you make it 30.
That is awesome Rob :) Your streak is going strong, keep up the great work!
That's awesome man. But don't get too lean and buff or people will think you're a weirdo ;)
I was just told about 10 minutes ago that I'm getting "too skinny".
I'm over 270 pounds and still under medical terms of "obese".
People are weird.
Thats so good that your team is making today a healthy eating day with the salad bar. I dont think Ive ever heard of it being done. Good for you all!!! Way to go on inspiring others around you.
Also, nice new low, keep 'em coming ;)
I think people say the too skinny comment because they dont know what else to say. I honestly dont think they mean any harm though. But look at it this way, isnt it nice to know in their eyes youre "too skinny" rather than than them thinking "he's sooo fat". I'd prefer that anyday.
Very true, Marcol. I thought it was funny - I get the "you're getting too skinny" comment all the time. I make sure I'm not "that guy" and play the humble card.
I still say that they're weird though ;)
what's wrong with being "that guy" :)
Jay,
This is an inside joke going way back. Whe Tuck got a place with a friend of his, who also happened to be my cousin, they had one rule in the house: "Don't be that guy." That guy being the guy you always talk about the next day, and never in a positive way. You know the routine:
"Hey, that party was really cool last night, but do you remember that guy, the one who..."
That's that guy. And first, last and always, DON'T BE THAT GUY!
