Weigh In: 271.8
The weight's going in the right direction. Today, I'm at the office for 10 hours, from 8-6pm. This is a tricky time for me, because when I'm at the school (not this job, the student teaching stuff) I am constantly moving and working with the kids, so it's easy to not think about food. When you've got 60 seventh graders, it's not hard to get distracted about where your next meal comes from.
(Side note: That gives me hope that once I'm doing FULL time student teaching in September I'll be more successful w/ the food thing).
Today is "healthy eating day" at the job. I'll give my team credit - they planned a healthy menu and are doing the potluck instead of ordering pizza, burgers and fries like they usually do. On the other hand, I brought my lunch today. Turkey chili again (love it), a few pieces of fruit, and a tuna packet in case of hunger later. I'm prepared.
Everyone around here views me as the 'healthy' guy, so naturally they want me to join them on the healthy menu. But, as the saying goes - one man's garbage is another man's treasure. I just looked over there, and they'd got quite the spread. There is a veggie tray (with full fat ranch dressing), a soup that actually does look healthy, oranges, a cheese dip, another melted cheese con queso dip, a few spreads of crackers, a crab dip, and - and I'm not making this up - almond hershey kisses because the almonds are healthy.
I wish I was lying about that - I just took an inventory of the whole deal. I think I could go on an entire rant about what HEALTHY food is and what isn't - but I think it's nice that they all decided to get together for a meal. I grabbed an orange, just to say I participated.
However, instead of the super healthy chili con queso, I think that I'll be sticking to my turkey chili, thank you.

Wow, isn't funny what people consider healthy. I use to be in that crowd, so I'm glad that you are staying strong. I'm with you on the turkey chili. I have a bowl once a day, it's so good, I put jalepeno and haberno peppers in mine to give it a little more spice.
I notice from your previous blogs and side bar you run some 5K's. I was wondering how you train for that. I guess I'm just an awful runner because I don't know how to breathe while running. I can go for hours on the olptical, but running, I can probably only make it 1/2 mile before I need to slow it down. Have fun at work, try to stay focused.
But in Men's Health is says that chocolate is packed with antioxidants and the almonds are really good for you...so 2 hershey's bars with almonds has got to be double good for you!!!
Jason, for me it's all about going slow. I tried to keep the same pace running on the roads as I did running on Elipticals and I tore myself up.
I don't want to make it seem like I'm really good at running 5ks - the last one I ran was Thanksgiving. Too damn cold here in Detroit right now.
Just go out and take it on. Ideally, breathe in through your nose, out through your mouth, but I can't really concentrate on that.
If you can do a half mile, you're well on your way. Just do half miles until you feel comfortable with that, and then add a little bit more. Pardon the pun, but it's a marathon, not a sprint.
Ha, awesome Justin...now if the isn't deductive logic I don't know what is.
Thanks Rob, I'll try to keep at it, I just don't really enjoy running all that much, but I guess the more I do it the better I'll get at it and the more I'll like it. Thanks for the advice
Oh, and make sure you have tunes - with a tempo about a running pace. You have no idea how much that helps me keep my mind off the torture I am putting myself through ;)
Yeah, I always have my 30 gig. iPod with me at the gym...I usually listen to stuff like Daft Punk while running, have any other suggestions?
If you're asking what *I* listen to, everyone could fill in the blanks for me.
Rocky Soundtrack.
I'll have to check that out
I normally listen to metal when I'm working out.
When I try to run I listen to dance music though...like Madonna. Nah, I'm just kidding. I found that some good techno works best for me...but once I tried to run while listening to Ministry. Wow! If anyone can keep "running" pace to the song New World Order....they are awesome. I looked like a total idiot.
ha, that's hilarious. I don't really know metal to well. The closest thing I have to techno is Daft Punk, so I guess I'll get try that again, I've recently just been listening to hip hop but I'm getting sick of that.
