First Steps

Weigh In: 291

Right back to where I started. Tom and I have this challenge going on to see who can lose the most weight in a month, and I'm currently at zero. More on that later, though. We've got until Labor Day.

Today is a major day for me. Last Friday I quit my job at the newspaper after 8 years, and today I start the first day of Marching Band Camp with Martin Luther King HS in Detroit. This is the band that went to China to perform at the Olympics. This is the band that is pretty much the face of the city of Detroit. This band is everything that is right with the city of Detroit. HUGE program.

Marching band camp is 8am-6pm Monday-Friday this week. I'll be there at 7:30. I'll be on the field marching and keeping up with these high schoolers all week. I've committed to 100% eating this week. I've been using this week as my reason (read: excuse) for eating poorly lately, that I'll just "start" when I'll be at camp. So here it is.

I'll be takling more about this band as I go - I'm considering creating an entire secondary blog about them. This is what I've been looking forward to doing since literally 1994 when I started my college career. I've taken quite a few steps - some in the right, some in the wrong direction, but I'm finally here.

More later - but I needed to put my numbers out there to keep myself accountable. I'm not proud of myself lately - in fact, I feel a lot today like I did the first time I wrote a blog here - unaccountable, embarrassed, feeling pretty down about myself and my lack of control.. but I know I've pulled myself from the ashes before, and it's time for me to do it again. I need to find pride in myself again, and I think that it starts with being a part of this marching band.

They are, after all, Crusaders. Wish me luck.

Congrats about the band.

Be careful. Big life changes, good or bad, equal big time stress. And big time stress is THE BIGGEST reason to go back to your old habits.

You need to make NEW habits in your NEW life. I want to see that number at the top of the page go DOWN.

Hey Rob -

I agree totally with the comment from "anonymous" (AKA ekt) - those kids are lucky to have you. Best of luck at MLK - I'm sure with your passion and energy for teaching and music you will do great.

I weighed in today on our challenge - I am down 7 pounds or 2.9% of my starting weight. I'd love to see you come fom behind and beat me out this last week - now you know what you're shooting for. I'll be heading up north Thursday on our golf trip and I'll probably be "bad" up there , so you still could knock me off.

Best of luck on all fronts !!

Good luck with the new job, Rob! It's awesome to be able to live your dream. Once you get settled into it you'll need to take a good hard look at what you need to do to achieve your other goals, in this case weight loss, and really take the time to add those things to your routine. Once you do that, you'll be golden.

Ditto on the new job comments, congrats Rob!!

Just make sure you get back to be healthy so you can be around for a long time and continue to live the dream. Sounds like you have put allot of effort into getting were you are now.

Rob, you gotta know I'm pulling for you. When I first stumbled into the Coalition, you and kevin - as the two big, tall dudes like myself - were the two major inspirations I had.

I hope you come out of the funk you've been in for some time now and knock off the last couple tens of fat.

But right now, bro, I'm taking a wait and see approach. I hope you do it and do it well!

Try not to stick a flute in your @$%&*

Damn, I just picked up on the first few lines of your post. You had a weight loss challenge with your friend and you're losing. Okay, no shame in that if you're fighting for it, but twenty five days without a single pound to show for it?

Damn, Rob....
Damn.

Alright, Rob, pull that flute out of your you-know-where and let us know what's up.

Better not pull a two week break! C'mon Rob, you've got this if you want it!

FAIL! You have failed.

Failed is a pretty harsh word anonymous (who posted the last message)....don't be so cruel.

RIP Skinny Rob.

Your life was short, but it was good.

We'll miss you, but you'll always be there in our hearts.

Just wait on me, folks.

Life came through with a freight train. I'll be back soon.

Some of these comments piss me off. Life happens, you guys. There are priorities. Failure? RIP?

Unreal.

Hang in there Rob. I'm pulling for you.
