A New Low, and a Lesson Learned

Weigh In: 298.5 (boo-freakin-ya)

A few things to note today.

First and foremost, I came in SOLIDLY under 300 today. It was a good feeling. Not some overwhelming feeling, but a sense of accomplishment. I thought that once I saw the number (I don't count last week's 299 - it was 'under review' of the new scale), I thought I'd be THRILLED. The truth is, I felt like I put the proverbial checkmark on the "To-Do" list, and I'm moving on to the next one.

The thing is, I realized that I've been obsessing about 300. The fact is, I'm only halfway to my goal. Getting under 300 is good enough for a pat on the back, but it's not where I want to be. So, just like winning the first round of the playoffs, I take my applause, I shake the hands, and I prepare for the next round. Still plenty of game to play.

In other news, I re-learned something the hard way today.

Eat breakfast.

Do it.

Let me say it again.

Eat breakfast.

I skipped breakfast today before working out, and I've done that quite a bit lately. I wake up around 5:15ish, shake out the cobwebs, and make my way to the gym to do my step class, my powerflex class, or work out.

The problem is, you can go on that for a while, but if your body decides that it wants calories (better known as ENERGY), then it needs to be fed. About 1/2 an hour through my 60 minute Step class today, I hit the wall. And I hit it *HARD* I don't remember how I even got through it, but I did. I couldn't move - and it's strange, because I've been getting stronger as I've continued to go to the class.

So, point WELL taken, Mr. Body. Breakfast it is.

Oh, and one other thing. Do you crave ice cream sometimes? I read somewhere, I think on the calorie-count.com forums, that you can still have ice cream - and that it's just like anything else - it's all about moderation. So, how do you deal with eating that tiny little 1/2 cup serving of ice cream when that little serving gets swallowed up in that big bowl that you eat your ice cream out of?

Eat it straight out of the measuring cup. When I did this today, I looked at that tiny ass little 1/2 cup measuring cup, and thought that it was completely pointless to have just a 1/2 cup. Not only was it enough, it completely satisfied me - and all for 110 calories of Edy's Lowfat Double Churned Ice Cream. As my good friend Rachel would say.. "de-lish!"

So, another day in the books. Working out with Gary again tomorrow morning. But, first things first - breakfast!

I actually just grab a spoon and get a scoop a good sized amount of ice cream onto it and lick away. This is usually enough to satisfy my craving. I read somewhere that we only enjoy the first two bites anyways. I'm sure it's different for everyone.

Another thing you can do is get the skinny cow or weight watcher ice cream bars/sandwiches. They are pretty good too.

Wait...another thing I learned from WW. Put some frozen fat-free cool whip between two fat-free graham crackers. I prefer the cinnamon or chocolate graham crackers. It actually does kinda taste like an ice cream sandwich.

Oh - congrats on below the 300's. What a huge milestone. I can't wait until I get to under 100 - Just Kidding. Beck, please come to MI and kick my ass if I ever get that skinny.

Hey there Rob...it's been a while.

First of all, congrats. On a lot...on the number. On the lessons learned about breakfast and the ice cream and the goals. You're still doing great! Glad to see you're still fighting for what you've set your mind to!

Also, looking at the before/after pics up so far...all I can say is DAMN you're doing good! Keep it up, you look great!

Oh, and the Edy's ice cream...yeah, yummy stuff! I am partial to the French Silk one..vanilla, chocolate and a hint of coffee...I'm good. I'll have to try your trick of eating it from the measuring cup. You're right...it looks pathetic in a regular bowl!

Congrats Tuck!! Really proud of ya :)

And about Ice Cream-realized the other nite I can't have ice cream anymore b/c I got SO sick on it, so that makes a decision easy. Being lactose intolerant can be a good thing I guess. LOL

OK, so...VERY jealous of the weigh-in. Like you, I'm obsessing about the 200's, mainly because it'll prove to me that I'm REALLY changing something. To me, there isn't much difference between 360 and 308. A 300 is a 300. So, I HATE you, but I'm extrememly proud.

I'm right behind you.

Nice work Tuck. Is your average below 300 now? BTW, which scale did you end up deciding on?

Billy, it's not quite at 300, but you don't get any closer to 300 than 300.1, so I'm done stressing about it.

As for the scale, I went back to the one that I've been using for 5 months now. Minus one bad week of overstressing, it's worked for me the entire time, so I just stuck with it.
