Follow The Bouncing Ball

Saturday Weigh In: 283
Sunday Weigh In: 279.5

So, check this numbers out. My last few weigh ins, recent last:

283.5, 280.5, 279, 283, 279.

My mental health has had quite the workout lately.

This is why I need to stop focusing on the individual day weigh in, and focus on my 5-day average. Of course that's not going to work because I'm already overly obsessed, but at least I know what I SHOULD do, right?

Anyway - some good numbers for the end of the July challenge. My goal was to lose 10 pounds for the month of July, but I did come up short. I lost 7.5 pounds which isn't too shabby. That counts a week where I was on vacation and ended up dead even. So, if you look at the other 3 weeks, that's 2.5 pounds a week - so I know in my head that if I wasn't on vacation and kept that same 2.5 rate, I would have my number. Minor victory, even if just in my head.

Also, I noticed on the final results page for the July challenge that I dropped 2% of my entire body weight in July. I never really thought of it like that, but that's a pretty cool thing to focus on. There's still a few days in July, but my goal in August is to drop that 10 pounds from August 1 to the end of the month.

So not much more to report tonight. Gary's back in town, so we'll be working out together tomorrow for the first time in two weeks. Definitely glad to have him back.

Ok, so not the most exciting blog of the year, but at least I got one in. Catch ya'll tomorrow. Here's to a great August.

Riddle me this:

If you know you should be paying attention to just your 5-day average, why is there never any mention on your blog of what that is? That's what you weigh, dude- I don't care as much about what your daily weigh-in was!

Try this- maybe stop posting your weigh-ins for a while and just post your averages. Maybe that will help you focus more on your average.

Another thought I had about the % of body weight lost- maybe the % we should use for august is the % of our total fat we lost.

For example, you got me and Dave, who both weigh close to the same. But his goal weight is 160, whereas mine is 180. So, I have around 10 lbs to lose, whereas he has around 30. So if we both lose 5 lbs, I've lost 50% of my fat and he's lost around 20%? I dunno, just a thought...

I think 7.5 lbs is pretty freaking sweet so good work on that. probably should just go on % of body weight for the next challenge. That is probably the fairest way to measure success. It accounts for people that are lighter (or closer to their goals).

Billy, you read my mind. When I was working out this morning I was thinking the same thing - I always post my daily weigh in yet never put the 5-day average up - especially these past few days, it would have helped with the mental war.

As for the %'s for August - I'm not quite clear - so are you talking about doing it where you to pounds lost divided by your 'pounds left to goal'?

That's a good month, and I totally agree about the average, it helps even out the fluctuations.

I get joy out of seeing a weigh in that will lower my average, even if it's higher than yesterday's.
