Lesson Learned

Weigh In: 292.5

Today's weigh-in taught me a valuable lesson about entitlement. I could get into a long diatribe about getting what you earn, earning what you get, etc... but let's keep this one simple:

I ran a 5k yesterday. I felt great. I worked hard, I busted my tail, I really accomplished a lot.

And then I had spaghetti. And bread. WITH BUTTER. And then more bread with butter. And then cake and ice cream.

And then I weighed in at 292.5 - up 3 pounds from yesterday's weigh in.

Quick - what's the lesson here?

For some reason, I felt like I really accomplished something with the workout, and I hardly ate anything all day, so when dinner came around, and we had a family get together of about 15 of us, here I go into the carbs. I could have had less carbs if I was thrown face first into a vat of peanut butter.

The lesson is simple - you are what you eat. Billy's said it a million times - exercise is the bonus, but healthy eating is key.

Lesson learned.

Again.

Funny how we all have to learn this lesson over and over and over :) Carbs are just sooooo yummy. Nice work on the 5k. Good luck this coming up weekend.

The best time to eat carbs like that is right after a vigorous workout, but perhaps you overdid it. The carbs will quickly replace the glycogen stores in your muscles that have been depleted, aiding in your muscle recovery. But, too much can't be good. Sounds like you underate the rest of the day... Congrats on the 5k! what was your time?

When you work up a sweat like I'm sure you did running the 5k, your body hangs on to the fluids, and can swell you up. If you tried on your wedding ring, you probably noticed it was tighter.

The 5k had to produce benefits, but you may not notice the results for a couple of days.

Congratulations on yet another "mission accomplished". :)

Your breakthrough into the 280's is a testimonial for the doubters.
When you do... what you know you need to do...the results are guaranteed!

Well, I ran 3.2 miles in 39:58 - I thought that was a 5k, but I was corrected (in a good way). Apparantly, a 5k is 3.1 miles, and not 3.2, so I did better than 39:58. So, probably low 39s?

As for the eating - Sunday was a lesson in how NOT to eat. Ran the 5k-ish on the treadmill, damn near starve all day (including right after this workout), and then at dinner I shoveled what I did.

Tsk, tsk.

Can't say anything you don't already know. It sucked that I made one big mistake and ended up over 300 last week, but you'll get back out of this just as easy. It's all about patience.
