Weigh In: 280.5
Five Day Average: 281.0
I'm not sure if I mentioned this in the past week, but I ran into the worst possible timing this week. As I mentioned, I am switching gyms. I canceled my Bally's membership, and am now going to the city Community Center. Bunch of reasons, but basically it's much easier, cheaper, and most of Erin's family has a membership as well. Gary's transferring over there next month.
So my last day at Bally's was yesterday, the 27th. The Community Center is closed, starting yesterday for a week for remodeling and such. The result? No gym for Rob until after Labor Day.
What's that mean? It means I've got the perfect excuse not to workout for a week, right?
Wrong.
Pretty damn proud of myself today. After reading a few of you post about long bike rides, I said that was something I've really found myself wanting to do. So, what's a perfect time to start besides the first day with no gym access?
I got on my bike (pictured above - mountain bike, not exactly a 'long distance' bike), and went 25.05 miles. Yup - no training, no practice - just decided to jump on, ride from my house to my parents house for a quick visit, and then ride back home. About 12 1/2 miles each way.
For what it's worth, I fell in love with mapmyride.com today. Such an awesome site to give yourself an idea of the distances that you're going. Here's my trip that I took today:

It wore me the hell out - but I'll tell you, I felt like freaking Superman when I was finished. I don't remember a cardio workout. Took me 2 hours total - so off the top of my head I think that's an average of 12mph. You math nuts can correct that if you want, but it's after 10pm so my analytical and mathematical skills are shot.
Two hours of cardio in the real world beats the pants off of 30 minutes on a machine, right?
"Tuck's Big Challenge" weigh in is tomorrow - what did YOU do for the better number this week?

Nice dude, I was actually planning on doing a 20 mile ride this weekend, I've never gone that far before!
I can't wait. Nice work not taking the lazy route when it was begging to be taken. That's how you get er done.
thats great!
any bike can be a touring bike. the key is to make it as comfortable as possible. Its nice to work your muscles all day, but its not fun or necessary to have a sore neck, wrists, or back.
25 miles is good for your first time. If you do it every week you'll find that you can do about 10-20% more each time.
Rob,
You have every reason to be proud of that ride. I too, feel pride for your accomplishment ! 25 miles is quite substantial.
You could very well be infected with the bike fever now ! It is easy on the joints and it takes you to great places.
Once again, A+++ on that ride !
Very awesome Rob. So impressive on the miles on your first time!
Awesome Rob on the bike ride. I bet your legs and rear are sore today. You will definetly feel it if you go to jump on that bike today :). I need to check out that site for mapping your miles everyone is using.
You know, it's strange. My recovery time was great - about 1/2 an hour later I felt like I never even went on the ride.
Of course, those first thirty minutes after I got off the bike, you could have rung me out and got about 8 gallons of sweat.
trip down memory lane
Wow, man. I remember posting that comment to you on that forum. That seems like yesterday..
