Day Four

Weigh In: 276
Day's Performance Grade: F

It was a bad day in the life when it came to the healthy lifestyle today.

Ate all day long, but didn't really blow it until dinner-ish time. But, it wasn't your normal "eat too big of a portion" thing. This was something I was really prepared for, but the excuse ends there.

We went to a "games night" with a bunch of my wife's teacher friends. Had a blast, they're all good folks, and we had a TON of fun. But there was no 'dinner'. It was all appetizers and snacks, and long story made short, I didn't hold back. I started by having the hummus because it was one of the only healthy choices, but if it was one of my weaknesses, it was there. Mexican dips, spinach dips, garlic bread, you name it - I ate it. I didn't have large portions really, but I picked and picked and ate non stop it seems from 6pm until just before midnight.

So when that scale goes up tomorrow (and it will), it's my own damn fault.

All I can do is fix it. And a week from now, when I'm wondering why I'm still in the 270s, I can look at this blog and remember the day I gave into temptation. That just sucks.

But it's life. And it also means that I'll be 100% tomorrow, and get my grade back up where it needs to be to pass this test.

The nice thing about giving yourself a daily grade is that there is enough opportunity to redeem yourself after a day like that. One F won't make a bit of difference in a sea of A and B days.

Those situations are hard, when grazing is the "meal." With holiday party season coming up, how will you handle all the grazing opportunities that are sure to present themselves?

4 days in and getting an F will not cut it man.

Would you have pulled this shit 4 days after you started your journey? Look back at the post about your fantasy football draft, remember that thing called "restraint" and how good it made you feel?

I don't want to come back here and see anything other than A's and B's from hereon out.

I'll be watching what you eat today. :)

You know Rob Ive been reading your blog and doing a lot of thinking. I notice a pattern...you always have some sort of "eating" engagement. Why is this? And if its going to be just how things are what are you going to do to not fall for the food traps? Before I started this weight loss thing I used to eat out alllll the time. Its what got me needing to lose weight. Early on I made a decision to not celebrate around food. Not to make every outing a meal engagement. You should think about this for real. Look over your blog and at least once and sometimes twice a week youve got some "reason" to eat out. This isnt helping you, Im starting to think its harming you in more ways than one. I dont want you to get stuck for so long that it eventually wears on your resolve to see this thing through. Can you find another way to celebrate? Can you eat before you go to these things?

Swanky makes a good point about the holidays...how are you going to handle this? You can lose through this season but youre going to have to think about how to make that happen and then just do it!

I also was thinking youre going to have to get off this day to day good eating trip and figure out how to make a lifestyle change out of it. You can do this Rob, I know you can...but sit down and realistically look at what youre doing, what youve done and what you should and can do. Create a meal plan and work it. Build boundaries and stick to them. I dont mean to come down on you but I want you to be the svelt man you so desire to be.

I read your post with mixed feelings. On the one hand, I feel bad... it seems that you expect to fail, and I wonder how much that plays into your repeated failures. Self-defeating, self-sabotaging thoughts are very powerful! Which suggests that there might be another, un-food-related issue at work. I also wonder whether you need to just create (or let someone create for you) a balanced diet. High protein, low carb, with built-in 'cheats' or indulgences. I know, I say it all the time, but if you are 'allowed' to have certain foods at regular intervals, it might take the 'failure'sting out of it - well, I already ate too much, so I might as well keep eating. Plus, it sounds like you have an unhealthy relationship to food, which is also an issue that needs to be addressed.

My other emotion is impatience, to be honest. I want you to get it together, because I know that you can do better. You haven't lost 100 lbs without discipline, willpower & determination. Figure out a way to tap into that to fire you up for the remainder of your journey. We're with you! And if you don't, Daddy Billy's gonna get you! ;)
