Holidays

Weigh In: 277.5

I've been putting this off since Christmas Eve because I just didn't want to hear what I knew was coming. I told myself that I was going to behave 100% through the month, and then during holiday parties I would pretty much eat without restriction, but knowing that I had to keep it in control, without any HUGE binges or anything completely stupid.

I can say that I did that, but with that choice came a TON of sodium, and the weight has been soaring.

Basically, each of the past few day was a celebration with a different side of the family. The Saturday before Christmas, the 23rd, the 24th, the 25th and the 26th. That means big meals. I ate 'regularly' - I had a few snacks, a few appetizers and a normal meal. I didn't limit myself, I had the sweets, but I also had NORMAL servings. Now we know that normal doesn't mean 'normal' to our standards, but I didn't go back for fourths, and I skipped a few (not all) of the desserts.

Plus, I went to the gym every single day except for Christmas Day as it was closed.

The bottom line is, I know my weight is up. I saw the 260s and didn't hold onto them. I had ham for dinner 3 nights in a row - the highest sodium rates possible. I feel like a sponge, and I KNOW I'm retaining more water than ten maids-a-milking.

But we're back in gear. I told myself that today would be the day I got back on the horses and went full steam, and that's what I did. So what if I have to re-discover the 260's? I had a great holiday with my awesome family, and I won't look back. As we've said a hundred times before, it's not a few days in the big picture that will kill us, it's if we don't bounce right back.

I'm on the rebound.

Well, I must admit I cringed when I saw that weigh-in. I hope you're right and it drops considerably over the next few days... I'll be watching!

yeah ouch.... your back though and fast gained pounds are fast lost pounds. Its the new lows you really have to work hard for. This time next week you should be a 260s man again. stay strong man

glad to hear from you again, rob!

I've been there, done that too...it sucks to lose the 260s but if its water weight it'll come off pretty fast.

just in case it isn't water retention, you'll have to reconsider how to negotiate your way through the festive seasons- cause its just not worth it to gain that much fat back.

its admirable that you went to the gym whenever possible, despite eating less than stellar. damage control, they say, but I tend to get so demoralized that you'd need a crane to haul my ass into a gym.

most important is your mindset- you're in the frame of mind to accept responsibility and soldier on despite your disappointment and that is ALL that matters right now.

You know, I don't even know if this makes sense, but I wasn't disappointed or really mad with myself. I saw it coming (although I wasn't expect as much gain as I did), but I knew I was building a bigger hill for me to climb.

Perhaps I should have been more upset about it, but since I knew it was coming, it didn't really piss me off the way other gains had. I don't know if that makes sense or not.

I'm in the same mindset right now. The Holidays have kicked my ass. I was so uncomfortable last night from my final dinner of Christmas leftovers. This morning's weigh-in sucked. I had a conversation with myself while getting ready for work. I had to remind myself about my promise that I wouldn't EVER go back. It's time to get on with it!

well, at least you're ok with it and are pushing forward!

As long as you know that when the time comes you can & will get back on track, I'm sure that the weight will come right off.

No worries - I never fell off track with the workouts, didn't miss a day at the gym (besides Xmas day - it was closed). Eating was bad at the holiday functions but my daily meals were ok. We just know what happens when you eat 100% all day EXCEPT for one meal, so I knew it was coming.

Weight'll come down - just takes time. I'm not going to let the date on the calender or the time frame in my mind mess with me. Hard work - healthy eating - that's what it takes.

You know why you weren't as pissed and you were expecting it?

Because you've lowered your expectations for yourself.

Not good!
