Weigh In: None
I actually went to weigh in today, but since it was so ass early and not even close to the time I normally weigh in, I'm not going to bother recording it. It was something like 275, but it would normally drop a pound or two from the time I weighed in to the time I normally would. So, an "unofficial" 275?
I've had something in the back of my head the past few days and it was verbalized by my father in law this morning. I've been in the gym EVERY SINGLE day, working my ass off. I've been eating pretty damned perfectly. A few days ago I had a half-cup, and that's a half-cup MEASURING cup of low fat ice cream. That is 110 calories. Then, the next day I had 2 cookies. The little ones - about 80 calories a piece. My weight went up six pounds.
In the back of my head, I think that's total bullshit. I understand "fluxuation", and I get that slipping will cause my weight to go up. I've got no bone to pick with it. But I can't help but think in the back of my head that it makes no sense. Everything we learn about 3500 calories equaling a pound, all the math and science that goes into this whole process, and to have my weight go up like 4 times by a HUGE jump like this - because of approximately 270 calories when everything else is golden, it makes no sense.
In my head, if you were listening, you would hear, "It's not fair".
But I know what that sounds like. I know it's someone complaining because the scale isn't agreeing with them. But when Tom and I were working out this morning, he said that he had read my blog from a few days ago, and his exact words were, "I saw what you said you ate, and that just doesn't seem fair that you would gain six pounds after that".
So maybe it's not fair. Maybe that little voice in the back of my head was right. Maybe gaining 6 pounds by staying under my calories for the day but exchanging a bag of carrots for sweet isn't what the 'rulebook' says.
I think I'm right to be frustrated about it. And since frustration fuels anger, and anger fuels intense workouts, I think I can be ok with it. For what it's worth, I've had a handful of peanuts, an apple and lettuce with tuna on top of it today, and it's about 2pm. I had a great workout today. I'm going into the weekend feeling energized and ready to knock it out of the park.
Fair's got NOTHING to do with it.

well, you didn't gain 5 lbs of fat right? so then don't worry about it!
Hey Rob,
Have you ever posted any before or after pics? If not, I think you should. It will give you something to compare to and really help you track your progress.
I think you should post a current shirtless pic.
Brian,
I've posted before/afters clothed, but a lot of my coworkers read my blog, so I'm not ready to post the shirtless ones. That would make it weird in the office.
I should take a recent - the last time I did one was about 2 months ago.
A wise man once told me that, "Life ain't fair" All you can do is keep plugging away Tuck, and hope for the best. You'll get there. Just out of curiosity, you haven't been eating a ton of salt lately have you? It almost sounds like you're retaining a bunch of water and that's what's making you pack on the pounds overnight when you haven't done anything to really cause it.
Hey, just found your blog. Awesome to read about another guy losing weight.
Anyway.
I know exactly how you feel. I've been stuck at 260ish for 5 months now. Nothing you can really do but keep grinding I guess. Doesn't make me feel better but it's true.
Good luck.
I think it was Clint Eastwood that said "deserve's got nothing to do with it"
you get what you get....as long as you are truly being honest with yourself about what you're eating and what you're doing, your results will come.
Nope ain't fair at all. Ain't fair that I posted 144.5 at the beginning of the challenge and then 148 the next week. Ain't fair that we have to rely on the scale, when it isn't that accurate as to progress anyway. Have you been using other methods of measurement? If not, I'd say start. At least take a measuring tape to your waist and keep track of that number. It keeps me sane, seeing the tape go down even if the weight went up. Means it's muscle which is holding on to water.
Oh yea- and you have been pounding it hard in the gym, which can cause water retention. And so can stress.
Hey Rob!
One thing that I know the body can do is get stuck whenever it wants. A trick that Ive found that works and many others have too is to trick your body by eating at maintenance for awhile and then cutting calories again. This should start you to losing.
But another thing, do you think you could perhaps just reallly be undereating for your size compacted with the amount of working out that youre doing? What does your actual calorie intake look like with your exercise included? If youre making your body starve with those two things your efforts and results will look the opposite of what you desire.
