Weigh In: 276 (ouch)
Five Day Average: 272.0
If you haven't read yesterdays' blog yet - read that first, and then come back to this one, or this one won't make any sense.
Now that I've been thinking about it, I think I'm putting a ton of pressure on getting to the "number" 269 - the same way I did 300 and the same way I did 330.
It's like some huge race to get there - I feel like I'm trying to starve myself sometimes, trying to go 'overboard' in the gym sometimes - just doing things I normally wouldn't do (eat cookies - I'm not even a "sweets" guy), when these huge milestones come around.
I just need to settle down, stick in the gym, stick to good eating, and let the scale happen. Easier said than done though, I suppose. I've actually considered putting the scale away - pulling it down from the shelf on Mondays to weigh in for challenges, and not being obsessed with the scale number. On the other hand, there's been MANY times where I've wanted to eat poorly, but then I step on the scale and know in my head that if I do eat poorly, that number will go up. So in a way, stepping on the scale 8-10 times a day has kept me in check as well.
I get all mad that "I've been trying to hit 270 since October". That's not even really the truth. I half assed it for months, and the RESULT was me not hitting 270. That's a far cry from really working hard and just not earning the results. I've only been REALLY TRYING since December 1 - and I've lost 4-5 pounds since then. It means that I'm working hard and seeing results. I need to stop looking at 270 as a "goal", and focus on 1-2 pounds a week steady weight. Does that make sense, or is that me just making an excuse?

that makes absolute sense and I think that is smart. A watched pot never boils!
I've been guilty of pushing really hard to get to certain numbers as well. It needs to be more about a gradual loss if this weight is going to stay off forever.
I don't think that's an excuse, I think it's smart and reasonable. There's no way you can keep a blazing fire going for any extended period of time. It's good to have it once in a while, but it's never going to last more than a few weeks. Then you gotta get back to sucking it up, doing the workouts, and saying no to the bad foods even though you want to skip out on the gym and gorge yourself on food. Plus, you don't want to restrict your calories too much, since your body will use your muscle for energy, and that's definitely not good (or healthy). Eat clean, workout hard, and the results will come. Consistency is the key.
As you have said to me on several occasions, you are thinking way too hard about this.
Don't eat any fuckin cookies and hit the gym, bro. Keep doing that and don't let yourself slip. Stop letting the holiday season fuck up your progress.
You can either dominate or you can submit. Dominate your situation, control it, don't let it control you.
Do you realize that I've nearly had an anxiety attack this last week? I blamed it on solely school to others, but I know deep inside that a portion of it is that my weigh-in on Monday did not hold on to the Dec. 6 low (I wasn't surprised) and I've really put the pressure on myself to get things down this month.
Sound familiar?
Yeah, I'm empathizing with you. However, I'm getting the anxiety under control and just keeping accountability. I'm pushing it hard in the gym. I'm making sure my eating is healthy. Beyond that, I can't control the scale. You can't either.
BUT-Control your behavior, and the scale will follow!
I agree with Billy. You're thinking too hard about it! You know what to do... c'mon you've already done this 100 times before (literally), now just do it one pound at a time.. :)
Hi there, just found your blog off of Carrie's blog. Sounds like you are doing GREAT! The scale messes with your head. I once had to have my husband hid mine so that I would stop obsessing about it. It's so much better to focus on body fat % and measurments. Easier said than done though! I find I only weigh myself when I've had several perfect days. Then I stay off it like it's a virus when things are less than good. Anyway, keep on keeping on...consistency is the key. Don't beat yourself up about little slips. It's about PROGRESS NOT PERFECTION. :)
You gotta be reasonable here, Tuck. The obsession with certain numbrs seems to be killing you, so the approach that you're describing makes sense. Don't let this get in your head, bro. You know what to do, now do it.
I can relate to weighing myself everyday, (not 8-10 times a day), but everyday. It does help me make better choices.
You have made good progress this month so far, just keep doing what you are doing and the numbers will continue to drop.
Consistency is always better imo. I know how bad it is when you want to get to a certain number quickly, but slow and steady always works best, and it makes the end result so much more rewarding :)
You seem to follow a pattern that is fairly common around these parts - half-ass, wake up, go overboard, fall off, repeat. I have said a million times - be balanced in your approach. Your months of half-assing it will not be made up by going to the gym twice a day for a week. But you will make progress by making good, reasonable decisions day in and day out. The frantic pace is hard to maintain, and I think that's why sometimes you get burned out. You're doing great, relax and just do what it takes to get it done.
