Data Collection?

Weigh In: 339.5

30 Minute Cardio - Elypical Machine ("Hill" setting)
Stabilizer Crunches - 150
(New High)

I went to the gym this morning as usual, and I felt pretty good. I wanted to change around my cardio just a little bit, so instead of using the 'fat burn' category on the Elyptical machine, which is pretty much a manual setting, I chose "Hill" this time. It's starting to get me more towards the HIIT workout that you guys are using, and away from 30 minutes of boring old steady jogging. This Hill setting basically starts you off at intensity level 0, and then moves incrementally up.

So, it's like.. 0, 1, 0, 2, 0, 3, 0, 4.. etc, until you get to max. Then, it does the same alternation, but quicker. So.. it's HIIT Jr.

I also felt pretty strong, because I've been able to increase my crunches to 150. I'm not sure if it's an improvement on my workout, or just my body's ability to reach just THAT MUCH FURTHER into the depths of hell. All I know is, when I started, doing 25-50 of these things made my eyeballs bleed. 150's an accomplishment. It's one thing to do 150 on an ab "machine", but when you're doing it "freeweight".. at least for me, it's a different world.

So.. my first 5 days have been calculated, but since I'm going to be posting new weights at the beginning of each week (that's my excuse), I'm not going to change the blog. I put myself on hiatus from changing the blog, due to your suggestions after my holiday debacle, so I've got a chance to redeem myself.

I've always been one to analyze numbers, so here I go. Here are the last five days:

342.0 - 341.5 - 341.0 - 338.5 - 339.5

They're trending downward, which is great. I faced the challenge this morning that a few of us talked about yesterday, which is seeing a number go up from the day before, and forcing yourself to look at it as "data collection" instead of your "real weight". This is why the 5-day system seems to work. When I stepped on the scale today, it was up a pound from yesterday's weight-in. Frustrating as hell. Makes you want to run back out onto the machines and keep working. On the drive home from the gym this morning, I was highly irritated again.

But, as I type this out now, and put the five days together, I feel pretty good about it. Down 2 1/2 pounds from 5 days ago. The trend is working.

So, hang in there. Keep your body healthy, your meals fresh, and your spirits high.

Awesome job on the weight loss. I didn't see your previous post until this morning, so I'll just comment about it here.

First, Erin is gorgeous! You did good. ;)

Second, there's definitely a difference in the two pics. You're slimming down! What was it? Skinny Tuck? I kind of like Tiny Tuck, myself. Anyway, good job! Keep it up.

As long as it's not "Friar Tuck", I'm doing ok.

As for me "doing good" getting my wife.. I'd like to think that what I lack in good looks, I make up in charm.. and incredible bullshitting skills ;)

Are you (or anyone else) using the weight loss spreadsheet? It automatically does the average and plots it out on a chart for you - pretty cool...

Rob, are you always weighting in at the same time of day everyday? If not, it might explain those fluctuations. I weight first thing in the morning after going to the bathroom. I very rarely see a fluctuation. If you’re already doing that, then take a good look at the numbers. You say that you like numbers so take a closer look at them.Your weight goes down 0.5 lbs for a couple of days and suddenly drops 2.5 lbs in a day. You got to be realistic and realize that this is mostly impossible. You have to tell to yourself that your weight tomorrow will be higher. This might save you some frustrations.

Not quite impossible considering water, etc. The body is an interesting machine and does bounce around in weight. 2- even 5 lbs isn't unrealistic. Just remember Rob, your body doesn't want to lose anything so it will fight you. Just keep up the amazing work, i'm gonna give you a call later this weekend, and Kev i'll be dropping you and email today. Do work.

Hey...a little late in the reply to this, but I'm here. Sounds like you're accomplishing much. Your increase in crunches is impressive to me, and it sounds like you're pushing yourself hard enough to make yourself work for this, but not so much that you lead yourself to disappointment. Good job.
The numbers do look good, and while I know the "up" yesterday irritated you, you're right to look at the whole picture. You can see you're making strides here.
Let me give you some more incentive. God knows the past couple days has scared me silly, to the point where I've never been more serious about doing what needs to be done to improve my health NOW!
Soon, you'll be 30. I've been told many times, that that's kind of the "cut off" date where it starts to become harder and harder to lose weight and maintain weight. It's also when it gets harder to build a stronger body. So the longer you wait to get healthy, the harder it will be to change it. Now is definately the time to get to it, and NOT give up no matter what happens! Now, you, and I for that matter, are a little less than halfway to my dad's age. I look at him. He's 64, he's in terrible health and he wants to improve it, so he can see his grandkids grow up. BUT, he's in such terrible shape, it would have been an almost impossible battle to start with. Now, he's in a position where his health and life are seriously jeapordized, yet, he's in such poor health, there little, if anything, he can do to correct it. Not a good place to be. I know for certain I don't want to find myself there in the next 30 years, and I doubt you do either.
Stick with this Rob. You owe it to yourself, and everyone who loves you.
