Looking Up

Was in the gym this morning, and I'm starting to realize that I'm using Josh the Destroyer as a crutch. When I've got my scheduled workouts with him, I feel amazing afterwards. Like I've really accomplished something. But, on the other 6 days of the week, I just do cardio and some weights, and call it a day. I do the grunting and groaning, but I don't feel like I'm doing enough, or doing it right.. something's not jiving.

So, I'm starting to look for good workouts. Things that I can do that really push me. I want to be sore as hell the next day, and really 'feel the burn'. I don't know if I'm just not pushing myself hard enough when I'm in the gym, because I feel like I am.. but something just tells me that I'm not really doing EVERYTHING that I can do.

Back to the gym tomorrow. Anyone have any SPECIFIC workouts that you've found to really work? I mean, like.. the number of sets, the workout itself, the actual physical exercises? I know that Billy and Dave have a few things on their sites on what they do, but I don't know what half of those are.

Btw, ate well today, worked out.. staying on track.

And Steve.. I still have no idea who you are.

I take my routines from the The Bodybuilding Bible for Men. You may want to take a look at the book. It describes all the exercises in good details.

P.S. My blog is now avaible through my profile.

Try this one:

My total body work out

It doesn't look like much, but the thing killed me my first few times. It only takes about 20 minutes, and you finish it off with 10 minutes of HIIT cardio.

Don't know how to help you on this one Rob. First, at risk of falling into the sexist thing, I doubt any workout routine I would have available wouldn't be what you, as a man, would need physically. Second, I'm no longer "allowed" to do heavy, hard workouts...I have to keep mine at stretching, moderate cardio and careful resistance training using bands. So I'm at a loss in suggestions for you. But, I just wanted to let ya know I was still here, cheering you on and ready to kick you in the ass if you start to slip again!

There are plenty of workouts out there, I think if you combine strength training with High intensity Interval training you should be fine. Check out mens health or something.

I think the real challenge is pushing yourself. When Josh isn't there making you go as hard as you can, you need to be able to make yourself go as hard as you can. When you lift, lift so that you physically can't even do the last rep. Do intervals till you can barely stand. That's the hard part. Sometimes I'm like that, sometimes it's hard...

Not sure what workout would work best for you. One of the main reasons why I started my blog was to test the Men's Health Home Grown 10 Phase workout and their Abs Diet.

If it works, GREAT, then people will be able to see day by day what I did and how it worked :)

Just keep the routine going, eating well, excercising well. When you can't sleep, work out. Always think of that song in your head. "Let's get physical, physical!". But imagine Josh screaming it to you in your head.

HIIT forces me to push myself. Since it's only half a minute (for me), it's easier to give it everything I've got because I know it'll be over very soon...until the next set, of course. It still sucks, but man, you feel so good afterwards!

Awesome job staying on track! It's good to have you back. :)

I am not sure that I think that you should put yourself in physical pain every time you workout. I am no expert but it can't be that great for your body. I always encouraged my kids to lift weights when they wanted a good butt kicking. I know it sounds so cliche but it adds strength and it IS a great way to burn off calories.
