Daily Bathing

Weigh In: 280.5

“People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing – that’s why we recommend it daily.”

-Zig Ziglar

That was the quote of the day in our weekly email here at work. Ironic, I think - as I write this blog.

This is how I've been feeling lately. I really start cranking it out and start seeing results, and then something just gives. I can't explain it, and if I knew how to prevent the motivation from going away, I would. I have no idea why I can feel so empowered and strong, and then I can literally blink and it is completely gone. I have a feeling I'm not the only one, but I need to overcome this.

As of now, I feel pretty good. I worked out this morning, had a meeting, came to work, and will be here for a while. Then, I do some running around, have a massage tonight (can't bitch about that), get some results from the doc (nothing serious), and that's my night. I brought vegetables and apples with me today along with two lean pockets, and I had an apple for breakfast today. We'll eat healthy tonight.

I can't pretend that I'm all gung-ho ready to take on the world, I'm really not. But if I can go between phases of feeling super motivated and doing everything right and phases of not 'feeling' it but DOING IT ANYWAY, I'll be ok. I just have to avoid the parts where I go totally to shit and undo everything I've done.

Also - I've been thinking about actually doing a workout/running routines (where I run 3-4 days a week and do strength training 3 times a week), but there's this weird muscle thing going on in my foot where it cramps up, and then I sliced the shit out of my middle finger (on the inside knuckle) a few days ago. I haven't been able to really grip anything (aka: the weight bench) for the past few days. I feel like I'm on hold until it heals up, but it's getting better. More a pain in the ass than anything (and I can feel Erin rolling her eyes at me already and she hasn't even read this yet).

I'll figure this whole thing out. I've done is far too many times to count. What's another shot at it, right?

If Erin is rolling her eyes at you then maybe you are being a wet blanket and need to step it up. Our wives know us best man, if shes calling your bluff then the sh$t is getting pretty deep. Having a cut on your finger isn't going to stop you from doing a kick a$$ lower body work out in the form of squats, lunges etc etc. Tape it up and quite using it as a crutch. Be careful with those lean pockets.... they are highly processed. Anyway man thats just how I see your blog today, kind of reading between the lines I guess. You could do the same to me and I need to take my own advise (I know). Common man you are better than this, just get it done!

I liked the quote by the way. Its a good way to look at things.

I should have clarified - I have been in the gym doing cardio and lower body - it's just the male ego that wants me underneath the weight bench lifting 2-3 times a week that I've missed this week. Still there, just not doing EVERYTHING I want to.

And she rolls her eyes at me about 54 times a day - what's another one? ;)

Agree with Rip about the lean pockets. Very processed and carb-y.

I have pretty bad eczema on my fingers in the winter and sometimes I need to tape them up and/or wear finger cots to go to the gym. Finger cots are like little condoms for your fingers. They work well.

Something that works well for me is group-style fitness. Working out by myself is really boring, and I can't keep a high level of motivation going for very long. However, if I join some kind of group activity (doing CrossFit now, did Muay Thai last year) it really helps to motivate me to get in the gym and to push myself when I'm there. Or even working out with someone else would do wonders. The accountability that is provided makes it harder to skip out on a workout than to just do it. At least, that's how it's been in my experience.
