Weigh In: 275.5
So the weight started to sneak a bit back down, hopefully this is a trend.
Hopefully everyone's weekends were good. I did well this time around, kept my eating pretty solid. Workouts were strong, and I got into my Week 3 stage of the BellyOff! program. Pretty much the same workout on Monday as I've done the last two weeks, but it doesn't get any easier. I was stumbling out of the gym this morning I was so wiped out.
I've been thinking about adjusting the diet a little bit. I've been putting a bit too many carbs into the meals, I think. It's funny how the little things slide in - having a piece of wheat bread with a meal that you normally wouldn't have any bread - having the baked potato with the roast beef - those details.
I've always been afraid of the concept of a "low carb" diet because of a bad experience with the whole Adkins thing. A few years ago I lost 60 pounds on Adkins, but at the worst possible stuff - bags of cheese, sausage on top of sausage, you name it. It worked, I lost the weight, but I knew I wasn't doing it healthy. A man can only live on fried cheese and pepperoni for so long. So I get a bit gunshy about leaving the 'carbs' out of the meals.
So I'm just going to scale it back a bit - nothing extreme like the whole Adkins things. Skip the extra slice of bread, replace is with an apple. Skip the potato, just have extra salad. The little things.
Other than that, no real news. Working out, eating right, making the small adjustments. January's almost over, and I've been at a standstill for a while. I've dropped 4.5 pounds this month with a "realistic goal" of 5, but I really wanted to set a goal of 10 pounds this month and really get the ball rolling. With 10 days left, I can do this if I do it right. Even if I don't get an average under 270, I'd like to see it on the scale again sooner than later.
Also - side note, my scale's been a piece of crap lately. Gives me a 3-4 pound sway every time I step on it. I've been taking the 'average' lately, so as much as I hate the thought of doing the 'new scale' thing again (those who read this blog 6 months ago know what I'm talking about) - it may be in the stars. Trying to avoid that at all costs.
Anyway, hope everyone's going strong. 10 days left til February.

I hear you about the low-carb thing. I feel like most evidence points to it as being a smart and healthy way of eating, I just don't like going to extremes with it.
I do think it's a good idea to get most of your carbs from fruits and vegetables, and try to minimize foods like whole wheat bread, rice, potatoes, and whole wheat pasta, and altogether eliminate products like white bread, white pasta, sugar, and the like.
I don't like the idea of "villianizing" any of the macronutrients. I would rather villianize overly processed, unnatural foods in favor of natural ones.
Im with you about being carb-wary. Put in too many carbs and you wont lose the weight. Take out too many and you feel down in the dumps as the cravings hit. You might want to try consuming the majority of your starchy carbs right after one of those intense workouts you blog about. as for the remainder of the day, stick to fruits, veges or small amounts of beans/legumes.
I feel you on the low-carb reluctance. I tried Atkins and it didn't really work for me, but before that I just didn't believe in eliminating an entire food group from your diet. However, after the past year, I have found that I feel best & lose weight the most when I basically eliminate starchy carbs from my diet, combined with consuming healthy fats and eating lots of veggies, which do have carbs. It feels like filling a diet with lots of carbs may fit the caloric criteria required to lose weight but it takes up inefficient space in your diet, if that makes sense, and hinders your weight loss.
