Weigh In: 279.5, 280.5, 282.5 (the weights that my piece of shit scale fluctuated between this morning)
Not much to say today. I added a few calories (a few hundred) yesterday, and was "rewarded" with this. I need to revisit this entire thing. I'm going to start counting calories MUCH closer, and going back to the scientific side of this, because this makes no sense. A long blog would result in a bunch of ranting and swearing, so I'm going to cut this real short. For the first time since I've started this, I've wanted to throw in the freaking towel. Of course I'm not going to - but I can't lie and say it didn't cross my mind when a 282.5 showed up this morning. Total horseshit.
Back to the gym in the morning. I don't even know what to say.

Hi Rob:
It may be worthwhile to post your food choices in your blog each day -- maybe you're ingesting more calories than you think?!?!
This is not, by any means, a criticism. In my experience as a fitness professional, I've found that many people who struggle to control their weight often eat more than they think. Brian Wansink's research has shown us that everyone can be guilty of this "mindless eating" behavior. As a result, people often underestimate what they eat.
Just a thought...
P.S. Best of luck. I really enjoy reading about your successes!
aw man, what the hell is happening?
Do you have access to another scale at all, just to compare? Your scale should not be fluctuating that much.
Man, I don't know what to say.
Have you given any thought to giving a lower-carb approach a try?
Wowzers! sucks man.... If your diet has been solid and your working out then I don't get it either. Mine has been good this week to and has gone up 1.5 lbs. Sometimes I think I weigh myself too often. Especially when I get off the scale pissed off and want to throw it out the window. I was looking at the MH belly off food recommendations and it doesn't look all that solid. Looks low cal but that's about it. I kind of wonder if your bodies metabolism has slowed cause you have been in the game so long. I know for a long time there you were eating in the 1500-1600 cal range which is way too little for a guy your size. Maybe look into ways of getting that metabolism rev'd back up. Of course all my suggestions are just shots in the dark... If you working as hard as you say you are and eating a strict diet you should be loosing weight. #1 though stick with it man don't give up. This is a rest of your life thing.
I don't get it - I've been eating fine. Chicken breasts and salad for dinner - usually eggs for breakfast (I had a small bowl of Wheat Chex yesterday for breakfast due to time restrictions but I KNOW that didn't cause me to go up 3-4 pounds overnight).
I'm going to go out and get another scale here soon - this one is literally 10 years old and gives me a different number every day. It could be totally off - but I'm not trying to blame the scale.
I'm seriously considering going low-carb - it worked in the past. I'm gunshy about it, but I'm really tired of seeing what I'm seeing too. This has to change somehow.
Maybe a low-carb beer ONLY diet. Even if that doesn't work, it'll make me forget about it.
that sucks. Have you ever thought of not weighing yourself for a week? I think it might be a refreshign change. At the very least, you wont want to tear someone's head off every morning. Keep eating well and working out, just cut down in weighing yourself. Just an idea.
I would have to second what the first poster said. Can you write out for us what youre eating everyday on your blog...whether you just taste it or eat it all...no one is going to come down on you for the amounts or the content either...just interested in figuring out whats the issue.
I think because you ate so low 1200 the day before when you uped it the next day the body held on to it.
As I said in your last blog comments you will need to up your calories gradually and there will be a weight gain or so it seems but this will help you re-set your metabolism...once you do this then you can cut back. You have to be prepared for the increase on teh scale but otherwise youre going to keep fighting this losing battle and really throw in the towel eventually. I dont want to see that happen.
Sounds like you need help creating a solid plan and then going from there. If youre not willing to do this you really may want to make the investment in Weight Watcher's and follow their point system which is a built in calorie counting system that works...they set your points and you just eat that and no more.
I'm thirding anon and Marcol. If you were my client and gaining/maintaining, I'd have you keep at least a three-day log that would then be posted to Fitday to figure out calorie amounts.
I'm really seconding whoever it was that said perhaps you should cut down weighing to once per week. I know you have some insane fluctuations and I'm sure that's what you're trying to prevent, but it also seems a bit like there may be some unintentional and unconscious sabotage. I could just be reading too much into it too. However, I'm a much happier (and leaner) person when I only weigh in once per week.
You and me, we're in the same boat- knowing what to do and being frustrated. I'm wondering how much stress has to do with the weight gain?
Oh yeah, and my scale does the same jump in weight, so I never get on more than once ;)
just popping in to say hi and to keep your chin up :)

This sucks, Tuck. If the eating's on,it makes no sense, but let's not give up now, bro. You can do this!
My scale is the same way. I think my wife picked it up at the dollar store or something because it changes its mind on how much I weigh every time I step on it.
One morning just to see the difference I got on the scale first thing: 288.5 lbs
I then brushed my teeth and put my contacts in: 288 lbs
I then used the bathroom and took a shower and dried off: 292.5 lbs
So I've just decided to not rely on the day to day stuff and focus more on my measurements and pictures. For me it doesn't matter if the scale says that I weigh 3 pounds heavier than yesterday if my pants are fitting looser. I think that once I get down to my goal weight I'm going to have a big party and light my current scale on fire and burn all my fat clothes.
