What A Difference A Week Makes

Last Friday's Weigh In: 274.5
Today's Weigh In: 277.5

I started last Friday's blog with the following quote: "Isn't it amazing that when you eat right and work out you lose weight?"

This week really boggles the mind. I started a new workout that was kicking my ass. Great workouts. I've been eating solid. I've been doing everything right. And the weight creeped up 3 pounds. I'm not sure what I did wrong. 7 days in the gym in the last week - meals were where they needed to be, I can't really figure this one out.

I think this is one of those points where you can't focus on the scale, but just know that the right process will prove itself worthy over time. I can't lie - I'm pretty pissed off about this, but the way I see it, I have two options right now.

1: Give up, pout or whine about it.
2: Know that exercise and healthy eating are the keys, and be patient.

As tough as it is to not throw the scale out the window and come to this blog on a rant about how it's bullshit that I've worked so hard to get negative results, that's not going to get results. The bottom line is, I have to keep going. Stay in the gym. Keep eating right.

It'll come off.

In the meantime, I think I better bolt my scale to the ground before it goes airborne.

Be strong, Weekend Warriors.

Stop focusing so much on the numbers; weigh in once a week maybe.

Just enjoy the healthy lifestyle and the rest will fall into place.

If I did that, I would see a 3 pound weight gain after this past week. Same result.

3 things.

1. there's a third option which involves pouting, whining AND keeping working hard. That's my plan anyway.

2. The fact that you're working out harder than before is probably part of the cause.

3. What did we say about 7 days in the gym? No good. Take at least 1 day off to rest and recover.

I did take this morning off - I thought of that. I was all set to go, and then thought of that conversation and skipped it this morning. I felt like a total slacker.

I remember Billy having great results after taking a WEEK off so I don't think one day will hurt Rob.

I don't have any clever insight into this issue that you are dealing with, but just like you said, even if the scale is not reflecting it, you know that you're going about this the right way. I guess that you just have to have faith that A + B = C. Working out + eating right WILL = losing weight.

Enjoy the BW100 tomorrow Tuck - it's a monster, especially the jumps. I switched my schedule to a M-W-F routine.

how much water are you drinking? Has it increased since working out more?

That time I ran a marathon over 4 days; I gained 4 pounds.

Why? Because my muscles were retaining water.

You could be doing the same.

It's no big deal. But either way, you should be sure you're drinking the correct amount of water. Most people dont.

I was thinking about the water thing today, I don't think I'm drinking enough. According to everything I read, you should take your body weight (270 - for ease of math), divide by 2 and that's the ounces you should be drinking. There's no way I'm downing 135-140 ounces a day. I should be.

Same thing happened to me this week, due (I think) to the increased intensity and workload of the exercise I've been doing. Your body wants to hold on to water and nutrients to repair that muscle tissue. Keep at it.

I've had the same thing happen. Worked out hard, ate right, and still have weighed in heavier the past 2 days. Wanna switch scales for a week?

Maybe earth's gravity is getting stronger?

I echo the sentiment...I know that weight loss is not linear, it comes in spurts and starts but still! its annoying as hell! there is no choice but to wait it out. it is SUCH a pain!

I'm thinking along the lines of Brian. Perhaps your hydration levels are off and maybe youre not consuming enough calories and so the body is holding on.

Do you mind sharing in another post what your calorie range is, the macro breakdown, your water goals etc...

Dont give up though - youll break free soonner or later :)
